Devotions: Q & A

Q:
Why does God love us so much?

A:
Well, the most obvious answer is found in 1 John 4:8, where John tells us that God is love. If you're looking for something a little deeper, I think I know what you're asking. Why is God love?
First of all, we know that God is eternal, so if God is love, love has been around for a very long time. God knew what was going to happen before it happened, so he knew he would love us before he ever created us. He created us anyway, despite the fact that he knew we would sin, he loved us and still created us.
I don't suppose I've quite answered your question. Let me put it this way. Why did Romeo love Juliet? Why do some couples stay married for sixty years or more? Why do people get married in the first place? It's just love. No one asks why we love another person. It's just something that happens. If God is love, doesn't it make more sense for him to be in love than for us to fall in love? He loves because, well, he just loves us.
